Write Permissions

To check that a file or directory has the correct write permissions:

On Windows:

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the file/directory indicated in the error message and highlight the file/directory in the left-hand panel. In Windows Explorer select File > Properties. In the Properties dialog box, select the Security tab, and click Permissions. Check that the user has "Write" permissions. Add permissions if necessary. If the user is unauthorized to add permissions, speak to your system administrator about granting the required permissions.

If you have the correct permissions, click the General tab and make sure that the Attribute Read-only is disabled.

On UNIX:

Type the command line "ls -ld dir" in a terminal window, where "dir" is the directory specified in the error message. Verify that the user has suitable write permissions for the directory. Use the commands "chmod", "chown" and "chgrp" to change the directory's permissions or call your systems administrator.

If you have administrator permissions, click the General tab and make sure that the attribute Read-only is disabled.
